The people behind the wall had nice pepper guns. The protesters only had to be close to the fence to get shot. It would work better if they electrified the fence and had german shepards. Why couldn't they just put up no tresspassing signs and arrest people who entered the space. Where were the police speakers encouraging people to step away from the wall.
