Getting Old

I have a stepson who is 14. Let me warn you what that really means:

Your iTunes constantly wants to play High School Musical songs or shitty R&B/Rap stuff.

Yeah, when Ivo is 14 it will be different....different shit music interrupting your Skynard, David Alan Coe, and Rai.

Small mercy: the iTunes has several Il Divo CDs loaded into it, but never queues those up.

I don't know what Rai is either.

Skynard and DA Coe? Christ on a tractor! How redneck do you think I am?

Rai is a fusion of Arabic/French/Jazz/Reggae music.

If have watched Blackhawk Down, the opening sequence with the helicopters is scored by Rachid Taha. (Made in Medina is an excellent album)

Khaled is pretty awesome too.

Notice that that Rye the non-redneck knows Skynard and Coe, but is hill billy ignorant about a global music phenomena that has had top 10 hits in Europe. WTF, where have you been the past 10 years, raising two babies in Taiwan or something? Unacceptable for a French-speaker. Sarkozy will disconnect your francophone if you don't watch out.

J-hole, I'd have put Uranium Savages as one of the bands, but I lost that tape. I will burn in hell for that.

I'm sure they're great I had just never heard of em.

I'll check em out if I ever have any free time ever again.

And I wasn't saying that I didn't have some redneck tendencies but I hope that I'm able to give my sons a broader musical experience than I grew up with (Alabama, Anne Murray, Oak Ridge Boys, Neil Diamond...)

Every N American knows Skynard but I'd never heard of Coe til Bread started playing him at poker.

"Who Put the Dick on the Snowman?" especially comes to mind this time of year...

Maybe we'll play that one at Ivo's party on Sunday.
