Santa Anna's right leg was lost in 1838 during the French Pastry War and taken by the Fourth at the Battle of Cerro Gordo April 18, 1847, during the Mexican-American War. Both Mexico and the State of Texas have asked for it but Illinois has refused and it remains at the Illinois State Military Museum. Read further: The Tale of General Santa Anna's Leg.
